  • Angela Butler

Concert Master & Acting Junior Strings Conductor

    Angela Butler - Biography

Angela discovered the joy of instrumental music teaching while mentoring younger students in her roles as Music Vice-Captain and Captain at Mueller College Secondary School. She has since taught the strings programs at four Brisbane Catholic Education schools, as well as students of all ages in her private studio. Angela has also offered her teaching abilities to programs such as the Gladstone Youth Music Council and Karawatha district music camp on a number of occasions. In 2023, Angela obtained her Master of Teaching (Secondary) and moved into classroom music teaching at North Lakes State College. This year, Angela has returned to Instrumental Music and is currently taking the Redcliffe State High School strings circuit.

Angela enjoyed developing her orchestral and chamber music performance skills as part of her Bachelor of Music at the prestigious Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University (QCGU). One of Angela’s achievements during her time at QCGU was being named Principal Second Violinist of the Queensland Philharmonia Orchestra, which was, at the time, based at the Conservatorium. Angela also developed her skills with regular attendance at specialist workshops, such as the Melbourne Youth Music Summer School and Cairns Winter Music School, while at university.

As an orchestral performer, Angela has developed her orchestral skills under the guidance of celebrated conductors such as John Curro (Queensland Youth Symphony), Warwick Potter (University of Queensland Symphony Orchestra), Johannes Fritzsch (Queensland Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra), Chris van Tuinen and Patrick Miller (Australian International Opera Company), and Rob McWilliams (AUSTA International Tour 2023). Through these and various community orchestras, Angela has participated in numerous concerts, music camps, and tours over the past eighteen years. This has included performances in the world-renowned Sydney Opera House and Brisbane’s foremost classical music venue, the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, as well as overseas tours. Most recently, Angela spent five weeks in Edinburgh performing with the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo for their 75th Anniversary show, The Heroes Who Made Us, and subsequently joined their recent tour to Brisbane and Auckland.

In the future, Angela hopes to learn more of the Celtic style and incorporate this into both her playing and teaching.
